In early August 2025, Rocket Lab successfully launched QPS-SAR-12 (nicknamed Kushinada-I), a synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) satellite built by Japan’s iQPS (Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space). This mission, called “The Harvest Goddess Thrives” in honor of a Japanese goddess of harvest and prosperity, was Rocket Lab’s fifth dedicated launch for iQPS. The 59-foot (18-meter) Electron rocket lifted the satellite into a 575-km circular orbit. QPS-SAR-12 will join an expanding constellation of SAR Earth-imaging satellites, enabling all-weather, day-and-night observation. The launch exemplifies Rocket Lab’s niche role in deploying small dedicated satellites and advances iQPS’s goal of a 36-satellite global SAR network. The…

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has returned to Hubble’s Ultra Deep Field, capturing over 2,500 galaxies across cosmic history. It is part of JWST’s JADES survey, re-imaging the same patch in infrared. Webb’s infrared cameras (NIRCam and MIRI) see much fainter objects than Hubble. While Hubble’s UDF showed about 10,000 galaxies in visible light, Webb’s extremely deep (~100-hour) mid-infrared exposure now reveals galaxies formed just a few hundred million years after the Big Bang. About 80% of the galaxies in the Webb image are seen from that early era.Sharper, Deeper Infrared ImagingAccording to a study published in the journal…

Wuhan University’s astronomers made use of the insight-HXMT satellite for studying a large outburst that happened 3 years ago in the X-Ray binary RX J0440.9+4431. The findings were released on July 24, 2025 on arXiv, and offered a detailed observation of the system’s properties and the activity at the time of the event. X-Ray binaries are the pairs of the stars and shine brighter in X-Rays. In such a scenario, one star either white dwarf or the normal one, transfers the mass to the compact object, which can be a black hole or neutron star. XRB can be separated into…
