InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. Swiss Re CorSo reshuffles APAC leadership

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ China CEO Jeffrey Pan and Southeast Asia head Didier Bélot will leave the company, InsuranceAsia News (IAN) can reveal.

APAC CFO Meng Hwi Chin, meanwhile, will step into the role of head of Swiss Re CorSo China, effective from August 1.

Singapore-based Chin will also take on the role of general manager for Swiss Re CorSo China, subject to regulatory approvals, and will relocate to Shanghai, a spokesperson told IAN via email. Shanghai-based Pan will remain a board member for Swiss Re CorSo China until the end of the year to ensure a seamless transition, while Singapore-based Bélot will remain with Swiss Re until the end of August, the spokesperson added.

2. Gallagher Re taps new Korea CEO

Gallagher Re has appointed Chulmin Jang as CEO for South Korea. He succeeds Phil Won Jeong, who will become chairman of Gallagher Korea.

Jang joins the reinsurance broker from Aon, where he served as president of Aon reinsurance solutions in Korea.

3. Aon names new head of construction in Australia

Aon has promoted Mary-Catherine Hamill (pictured) to the role of head of construction in Australia. Hamill has been with Aon for over nine and a half years, most recently as specialty solutions placement leader.

She will take up the new role on June 1.

4. Beazley strengthens APAC team with double promotion

Beazley has promoted Kwang Hoon Song to regional manager for Asia Pacific marine and Steven Hatton to regional manager for political, accident, and contingency risks.

In their expanded roles, Singapore-based Song and Hatton will focus on strategic direction and the promotion of Beazley’s marine, aviation, political, accident, contingency, and portfolio underwriting products in Asia Pacific.

5. Sompo Asia Pacific appoints senior vice president, head of project management office

Specialty (re)insurer Sompo has hired David Chau (pictured) as senior vice president and head of the project management office for Asia Pacific.

Singapore-based Chau will be responsible for leading the new regional project management office (PMO) and driving key strategic projects in the region, in addition to building the foundations of PMO framework, governance, and processes, the statement said.

6. Berkley Insurance Asia hires commercial PI lead

Berkley Insurance Asia has appointed Vivian Chow as commercial professional indemnity underwriting manager in Hong Kong, confirming a report by InsuranceAsia News in March.

Chow will lead the newly established commercial professional liability practice at Berkley Insurance Asia.

7. Miller’s Japanese arm names Tokio Marine veteran as CEO

Specialist (re)insurance broker Miller’s Japanese unit, Lead Insurance Services, has promoted Naoteru Akigami to president and CEO, succeeding Toru Suzuki, who has taken over as executive chairman, sources told InsuranceAsia News.

Tokyo-based Akigami joined Lead in April 2024 as executive director, following his 34-year tenure at Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance, where he was deputy general manager of the marine underwriting department. He was appointed CEO last month.

8. Cornerstone Risk Group expands sport, entertainment team with director hire

The Ardonagh Group-backed Australian insurance broker Cornerstone Risk Group has appointed Russell McCauley (pictured) as head of sport and entertainment.

Sydney-based McCauley was most recently senior liability underwriter at specialty MGA Dual.

9. Howden bolsters Asia marine practice with Markel hire

Global broker Howden has hired Zita Fok as divisional director for marine, cargo and logistics for its Asia practice.

Hong Kong-based Fok joins from specialty carrier Markel International, where she spent over two years as a specialist marine underwriter handling hull, war, and marine liability classes.

AIG Australia CEO Grant Cairns will join Steadfast Group COO Nigel Fitzgerald as a founding executive partner in the launch of a new digitally led MGA in Australia, Fitzgerald has confirmed to InsuranceAsia News (IAN). Cairns will join the new underwriting business in October 2025.

And Chubb’s head of global brokers for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), John French, will retire following a 41-year career in the insurance industry. French, who also holds the additional role of colleague development ambassador for ANZ, has worked at Chubb for 28 years since September 1997.
