Sunny Bhurji will report into TUI’s new CMO, who also joined from Sky in April.
TUI has appointed Sky’s marketing director Sunny Bhurji as group director, brand and content, to help undergo the “transformation and evolution” of the TUI brand.
He replaces Toby Horry, who announced in March that he would be leaving to join Merlin Entertainments as senior vice-president of global marketing.
Bhurji will report to recently appointed CMO Amber Pine, who also joined from Sky, in April.
He joins TUI after more than eight years at Sky, where he worked across Sky Broadband, Sky Mobile and Sky TV. He played a key role in launching Sky Glass, which was its biggest ever brand and product launch in the UK, and created a new category in the market.
Prior to that, Bhurji headed up marketing for Sky Sports and Sky Cinema across customer and trading channels. He started his career agency side before transitioning to consumer marketing and spent eight years within FMCG, where he was responsible for shopper and trade marketing for Mars and AB InBev.
Pine spent over 18 years at Sky, where she worked primarily in the consumer, sales and marketing divisions before leading the broadband and connectivity business. Immediately prior to her departure, she was managing director of Sky Connectivity.
The new appointments come as TUI moves to become a “global curated leisure marketplace” following the growth of its Markets + Airlines business. The transformation into a marketplace means commercial and marketing will be organised in an “integrated way” across the regions.
TUI was crowned Marketing Week’s Marketing Team of the Year in 2023 for its work rallying the marketing team following the pandemic.
Bhurji will begin the role on Monday, 2 June.
