Angela Weiss / AFP / Getty Images The stocks of software companies such as Salesforce have soared this week on hopes that Chinese start-up DeepSeek’s cost-efficient AI model could make AI applications significantly less expensive to develop and run. DeepSeek’s success could hasten the roll-out of AI agents, semi-autonomous digital assistants that Wall Street analysts expected to command greater investor attention this year. Microsoft’s Azure platform, Morgan Stanley analysts wrote on Tuesday, could benefit from a proliferation of AI models and consumer applications. Chinese startup DeepSeek’s super-efficient open-source AI model may have sunk some of Wall Street’s favorite AI stocks…
A new laser-based imaging technique has been developed to study nanoscale heat and charge transport in ultrawide-bandgap semiconductors like diamond. By utilising a tabletop deep-ultraviolet (DUV) laser, researchers have achieved spatial resolutions of 287 nanometres, enabling detailed analysis of diamond’s transport behaviours. This breakthrough addresses the limitations of visible-light imaging methods and could revolutionise the design of high-efficiency power electronics and communication systems.Study Reveals Unique Capabilities of the DUV MicroscopeAccording to the study published in Physical Review Applied, the microscope generates high-energy DUV light to create interference patterns on the material’s surface, forming sinusoidal heating profiles. Researchers at JILA, led…
Getty Images; Chelsea Jia Feng/BI Nvidia’s 17% sell-off could be the beginning of a pullback that’s two or three times larger, Nassim Taleb says. The «Black Swan» author said the DeepSeek-fueled market rout exposed how fragile the market is. Nvidia’s loss was relatively small considering the stock’s steep climb in recent years, he added. Nvidia’s double-digit decline could be just a taste of what’s to come for investors, with another pullback multiple times as large in the cards, «Black Swan» author Nassim Taleb said. Taleb, an advisorr at hedge fund Universa Investments, cautioned that Nvidia’s rout, which wiped out almost…
