In the latest wave of cancel culture, comedian Shane Gillis has been blasted for “slut-shaming” women’s workout clothing during his controversial SNL monologue last week.

“I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know that women just dress like whores now,” Gillis said, adding, “there’s no other way to describe it. Have you seen the shorts?”

He went on to describe the skin-tight, neon-colored shorts, which are designed to smooth and lift, with fabric that, he says, gathers “around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole.” He then added a warning: “Don’t look. You’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look. Because they are filming. I’m in the background of 10 TikToks right now.”

Women aren’t taking the comments lying down. Many are clapping back on social media and posting videos of themselves in their favorite gym outfits. Even former Saturday Night Live cast member Ego Nwodim chimed in, sharing a photo of herself in a workout set, with the caption, “Whore reporting for duty.”

And if there’s a specific pair Gillis is referring to, it’s likely something like the ultra-popular BRXL Scrunch Butt Lifting Shorts on Amazon — which are available in a sea of bright colors, from hot pink to neon green and baby blue.

According to the brand, the $20 Amazon shorts are made with a blend of nylon and spandex designed to “sculpt your curves” — and yes, they do have some ruching.

According to the brand, the tummy control waistband, V-back design and full-coverage material help enhance hip definition and create a naturally lifted, rounder silhouette.

Per the reviews section, women say they do just that. Some rave that the shorts showcase their Russian deadlift work “so nicely,” while others have pointed out that they’re completely “squat-proof” and “extremely flattering”. They’re also available in extended sizes and lengths to flatter different body types.

“I don’t have a ton in the trunk, and these made my booty pop!” one impressed shopper shared. “My husband loves them. They are very comfortable. Decent compression in the tummy. Barely rolled up in the legs while I was working out.”

As many women have pointed out, it’s not just about the looks. Many have noted that these kinds of shorts have ample compression and a smooth, comfortable fit, which also makes them a very practical choice for working out.

Put simply, many women agree these shorts “get the job done” — and Gillis’ opinion can’t stop them from snagging a pair for under $20.
